0Comments

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools issued the following announcement on June 2.

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools is committed to fostering an environment that values intersectional visibility and support for our LGBTQIA+ students, staff, community members and others. We recognize their remarkable bravery and authenticity, while also affirming the gender identity and gender expression of our LGBTQIA+ district and community members.

During LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, we are reminded that our community cannot succeed unless the school system is committed to collaborating with the LGBTQIA+ community to further its efforts of forming strong relationships in a culturally sensitive, responsive, and appropriate way. Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools reaffirms its opposition to discrimination, prejudice, homophobia and transphobia.

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools proclaims June 1-30, 2022, to be LGBTQIA+ Pride Month in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, and invites schools to implement developmentally appropriate, representative, and inclusive observations that center the narrative of LGBTQIA+ history, families, advocacy, and gender diversity. We strongly encourage our students, staff, and community to observe, recognize, and celebrate the presence and contributions of LGBTQIA+ individuals to our country, North Carolina, our beautifully diverse county, and our schools, not only during June but throughout the school year.
