The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) has announced several schedule changes for winter sports events due to widespread snow and hazardous travel conditions across the state. The adjustments are intended to prioritize the safety of participants, officials, and spectators.
State swimming and diving championships, originally set for February 4–7, have been postponed to February 11–14. Those interested in detailed schedules can find more information on the Swimming and Diving Championship page.
For indoor track and field, the deadline for reporting state qualifiers is now Saturday, February 7 at 9 p.m. State championship meets will also be rescheduled. The new dates are as follows: 1A/2A competitions will take place on Wednesday morning, February 11; 3A on Wednesday afternoon, February 11; 6A on Thursday morning, February 12; and 4A on Thursday afternoon, February 12. Meets for classes 7A and 5A are moved to Wednesday morning and afternoon respectively on February 18, while class 8A is scheduled for Thursday morning, February 19.
All dual team wrestling matches planned for this week have been delayed. Rounds one and two are now set between February 10–12; rounds three and four from February 16–18; with state finals in Greensboro on Sunday afternoon, February 22. There will be no changes to men’s individual regional or state wrestling championships.
Women’s regional wrestling events scheduled for February 6–7 will now occur from February 10–12.
Additionally, the NCHSAA Board has decided to waive a handbook requirement that typically mandates one of four allowable basketball games in a two-week period be played on a non-school day. This measure aims to give schools more flexibility in rescheduling games affected by weather disruptions.
“The NCHSAA will continue to monitor conditions statewide and work closely with member schools to address remaining challenges. Any additional changes will be communicated as soon as they are finalized and approved by the Board of Directors.”
The association emphasized its commitment to updating schools about any further modifications as decisions are made.
