TOWN OF HILLSBOROUGH: Hillsborough Joins Orange County Stay-at-Home Order

Town of Hillsborough issued the following announcement on March 26.

The Town of Hillsborough has issued a proclamation consenting to the application of a stay-at-home order for residents within its jurisdiction.

“This stay-at-home proclamation aims to drive home the serious nature of this pandemic and to help our residents and businesses understand what we need to do to keep ourselves and each other safe,” Hillsborough Mayor Jenn Weaver said. “Our collective commitment to complying with this order ― agreeing to stay at home and stay physically apart from others ― will determine how well our community fares in the coronavirus emergency.”

Orange County issued the declaration of a stay-at-home order in coordination with the towns of Carrboro, Chapel Hill and Hillsborough to prevent further spread of COVID-19. It becomes effective at 6 p.m. Friday, March 27 and will remain in place until 5 p.m. April 30. The order for all county residents is intended to slow transmission of the virus, prevent overwhelming local hospitals and keep first responders safe by ensuring self-isolation of as many people as possible.

“I encourage every member of our community to remember that we need to reduce our exposure to risk; that we need to align our own behavior with what is best for everyone else around us; and that we need to stay focused on what we need to do to stay safe while being prepared for changing conditions,” Weaver said. “We must stay together in this effort, and I have every faith the Hillsborough community can and will do so.”

Need toilet paper?

Hillsborough water and sewer customers who need emergency toilet paper can contact Utilities Infrastructure Protection Supervisor Troy Miller by email or at 919-732-9459.

Please do not flush wipes or other materials used in place of toilet paper. These items should be placed in the trash regardless of whether they are labeled flushable. See the No Wipes in the Pipes page on the town’s Engage Hillsborough platform.
