The Hillsborough/Orange County Chamber of Commerce recently launched a fundraising drive to assist hospitality and service industry workers who have been displaced due to the coronavirus crisis.
The chamber created a GoFundMe account for individuals and businesses can donate to employees in need of financial assistance, according to the organization's website. Funds have already begun being distributed to displaced workers.
“It is a start, but until the staff in the hospitality and service industries can return to work, we will keep trying to raise funds,” the Chamber wrote in a post on its Facebook page. “If your business has been able to continue to operate, please consider accepting the challenge from Dr. Canada of Global RX — he will match up to $5000.00 in contributions from local businesses! Thank you all who have supported so far!!”
The chamber has also teamed up with The Wooden Nickel for a campaign where people can virtually tip hospitality and service business workers in Hillsborough through Venmo.
