Town of Hillsborough issued the following announcement on May 12.
The Hillsborough Board of Commissioners met Monday, May 11. Following is a brief summary of noteworthy actions. It does not include all actions taken at the meeting and should not be viewed as official minutes. The meeting took place virtually with online conferencing software and is available for view on the town’s YouTube channel.
Train station
The board discussed accommodating some town offices and meeting space at the future train station facility and decided to keep that option in the early stages of designing a facility. Last month the board approved an interlocal agreement with the North Carolina Department of Transportation and GoTriangle to document the funding sources and project responsibilities regarding the planned Hillsborough train station. The facility is expected to be built within seven years. The board intends to release a request for qualifications from design professionals to assist with design options in July.
Public hearing
Due to the cancelation of the April joint public hearing, the board agreed to hold a public hearing in addition to the quarterly public hearing scheduled for 7 p.m. July 16. The date of the additional public hearing has not been set.
Budget
The board plans to discuss the draft Fiscal Year 2021 budget at its work session May 26. The public hearing on the budget will be held June 8. If needed, the board will continue to discuss the budget June 15 and adopt the budget either June 22 or hold an additional meeting June 29. These meetings will begin at 7 p.m. It is unknown at this time whether they will be held at the Town Hall Annex, remotely, or with options for the public to participate in person and remotely.
