The Town of Chapel Hill recently held a virtual town hall meeting to seek input from area residents about the community's most pressing housing needs.
The objective of the meeting was to help the Chapel Hill Town Council decide the best way to allocate Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, according to a post on the town’s website. As a recipient of CDBG funds, Chapel Hill is required to hold an annual public needs assessment hearing to guide the use of the funds.
“The primary objective of the program is to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment and expanding economic opportunities for low- and moderate-income peoples,” the post said.
The town is also accepting CDBG grant applications.
Additional information about the process and the city’s plans for the funding can be requested by emailing CDBG@TownofChapelHill.org.
