Past Meeting 

The Carrboro Town Council met virtually Tuesday, Nov. 17, and took the following actions.

• Agreement with NCDOT for Jones Creek Greenway

  The Council approved the supplemental agreement with the North Carolina Department of Transportation for the Jones Creek Greenway to provide $343,200 of additional CMAQ funds to the project and to authorize $85,800 for the local match.

• Schematic Design of 203 Project

  The Council approved the schematic design and authorized the $25.8 million (shared between Town and Orange County) project to proceed with the next steps of the development process including permitting. The current schedule anticipates moving forward to design development, permitting and construction plan preparation, so that construction may begin in the fall 2021. This schedule is anticipated to allow opening of the new facility in late 2022. The building will house the Orange County Southern Branch Library; Town of Carrboro Recreation, Parks and Cultural Resources Department; the Orange County Skills Development Center; Virtual Justice Center; WCOM Radio; Teen Center and more. • Monthly Reports

  The Council received monthly reports from economic development, fire, police and the stormwater utility. 

• Lettering style for Black Lives Matter installation at the Carrboro Century Center

  The Council provided direction on the font and spacing of the Black Lives Matter installation at Carrboro Century Center.  A request for estimates has been distributed to a number of muralists. Staff will incorporate the specific lettering into a contract for the mural services. 

• CommunityWorx Building, Black Lives Matter Mural Selection

  The Council selected a muralist, rendering and young artists for the mural space identified on the side of the CommunityWorx building. The Council supported recommendations from the Recreation and Parks Commission and the Arts Committee for the following mural team - Tyrone Small as the muralist and the rendering of Ash Granda-Bondurant, Carina Rockart-Grade and Theo Preston. Installation and painting is set to begin on Nov. 30. 

• Update on the South Greensboro Street Sidewalk

  The Town Council received an update on the development of conceptual plans for the South Greensboro Street sidewalk and considered selecting a preferred alignment. Staff were directed to gather additional community input. 

• Update on the Morgan Creek Greenway

  The Council received an update on the Morgan Creek Greenway and design modifications needed to rebid the project. The project is part of the Morgan Creek Greenway Conceptual Master Plan, a multi-phase greenway system connecting the neighborhoods around Smith Level Road to University Lake. The Town Council provided input, referred the matter to the Greenways Commission, and instructed staff to hold a public meeting with adjacent property owners.

• Town of Carrboro Advisory Board Recruitment and Appointment Policy
