Town of Chapel Hill issued the following announcement on Jan. 27.
The Chapel Hill Police and Fire Departments responded to a vehicle crash at about 4 p.m. Tuesday at the playground outside Northside Elementary School.
The Police Department’s preliminary investigation found a driver crashed a vehicle through a fence and struck playground equipment. The driver of the vehicle and two children who were on the playground were transported to UNC Hospitals. Their conditions were not immediately available. One other child was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Twenty children were on the playground as part of an after-school program at the time of the crash.
Chapel Hill Police Crisis Counselors are assisting the families involved. The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available.
