CHAPEL HILL-CARRBORO CITY SCHOOLS: Reminder Message For all CHCCS Employees, Students and Families

Electionvote

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools issued the following announcement on Mar. 31.

Earlier this month, the primary election date was set for Tuesday, May 17. As a result, CHCCS will ask for approval to hold a virtual learning day for all students on that day. While this is not officially approved yet (we are working through the details with our schools and the state Department of Public Instruction), we wanted to pass along our intentions now, so that all families can adequately plan for it.

For reasons that include student safety and the public’s access to the polls, it is our preference not to have children in our schools on voting days. CHCCS has 11 schools that serve as polling places. Note: The May 17 date was not finalized until earlier this month, when court-imposed North Carolina congressional maps were approved for use in the 2022 election cycle.

We’ll keep you posted when this change becomes official. Schools would then communicate plans for the virtual learning day, including schedules, the continuity of direct instruction, and an emphasis on student support as we get closer to May 17.
