COUNTY OF ORANGE HOUSING DEPARTMENT: Board of Commissioners choose Bedford, McKee as Chair, Vice Chair for 2023

County of Orange issued the following announcement on Dec. 11.

Jamezetta Bedford was unanimously chosen to serve as chair for the Orange County Board of Commissioners at its Dec. 5 organizational meeting. Bedford, who is in her second term on the board representing District 1, had served as Vice Chair for the previous two years. Before being elected to the Board of Commissioners in 2018, Bedford served three terms on the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education.

Earl McKee, the longest-serving member of the Board of Commissioners who was elected to his fourth term on the board in November, was chosen to serve as Vice Chair by a 4-3 vote. McKee represents District 2. He previously served as Vice Chair of the Board in 2013-14 and as Chair in 2015-16.

State law requires each board of commissioners to meet on the first Monday in December to choose its leadership for the upcoming year.

Prior to the meeting, commissioners Sally Greene, Bedford, McKee and Anna Richards were sworn in after being elected to the board in November.
