COUNTY OF ORANGE HOUSING DEPARTMENT: Accepting Applications to fill vacancy on Board of County Commissioners

County of Orange issued the following announcement on Dec. 11.

The Orange County Board of Commissioners will have a vacancy after Dec. 31, 2022, due to Commissioner Renee Price’s election to the N.C. House of Representatives.

Individuals interested in being considered for the position can apply through the Clerk to the Board. Applicants must be registered Democrats and live in District 2. Applications are due to the Clerk to the Board by Jan. 6, 2023, at 5 p.m.

State law requires the Board of Commissioners to consult with the Orange County Democratic Party before making the appointment. In 2021, after Commissioner Mark Dorosin resigned his seat, the board sent applications to the Democratic Party, which interviewed the candidates and presented four candidates to the BOCC for consideration. The Board will follow the same process this year, with the party asked to make its recommendation(s) by Jan. 30, 2023.

The Board of Commissioners anticipates choosing the replacement at its Feb. 7, 2023, Business Meeting.

The person chosen will serve the remainder of Price’s term, which ends in November 2024.

The application may be downloaded at the following link: https://www.orangecountync.gov/DocumentCenter/View/16261/Orange-County-Board-of-Commissioners---Vacancy-Application.

Interested individuals can obtain a copy of the application by contacting the Clerk to the Board at 919-245-2130 or by emailing clerk@orangecountync.gov.

For further information, please contact the Clerk to the Board at 919-245-2130 or email clerk@orangecountync.gov.
