Town of Hillsborough issued the following announcement on Dec. 11.
Please consider offering your time and expertise by serving on a Hillsborough board. Several boards have vacancies.
Parks and Recreation Board
The Parks and Recreation Board is seeking candidates to fill vacancies including a seat reserved for a teen member between the ages of 13 and 19 and a seat reserved for a senior member who is 55 or older.
Applicants must reside in the Hillsborough zoning jurisdiction, either inside the town limits or in the extraterritorial jurisdiction. See the Jurisdiction and Service Areas page on the town website to determine whether you reside in the extraterritorial jurisdiction. The board strives for representation from different neighborhoods around town.
The Parks and Recreation Board advises the town on issues related to park facilities and greenways. The board also works to develop and implement connectivity priorities and recommendations in the parks master plans, which are the board’s guiding documents. See the Parks and Recreation page on the town website.
The board meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month as necessary. For more information, contact Public Space Manager Stephanie Trueblood by email or by phone at 919-296-9481.
Planning Board
The Planning Board is seeking to fill two vacant seats. One is designated for someone who lives within the town limits, and the other is designated for a resident who resides outside the town limits within the town’s extraterritorial jurisdiction. See the Jurisdiction and Service Areas page on the town website to determine whether you reside in the extraterritorial jurisdiction.
The Planning Board reviews planning issues within the town’s zoning jurisdiction. It also reviews and makes recommendations on rezonings, subdivisions and ordinance amendments. See the Planning Board page on the town website.
Meetings are at 7 p.m. the third Thursday of the month. Due to current public health concerns, the board is meeting remotely via Zoom. Terms are for three years. Visit the Planning Board page on the town website. For more information, contact Planning and Economic Development Manager Shannan Campbell by email or by phone at 919-296-9477.
Tourism Board
The Tourism Board has three vacancies for someone who owns or operates a restaurant or other business that collects and remits the prepared food and beverage tax.
The Tourism Board drives economic development by promoting travel, tourism and visitor services. It sponsors programs and activities designed to improve Hillsborough's attractiveness to visitors. To accomplish this, the board reinvests the town's prepared food and beverage tax in funding for grants, special projects and partnerships, and contract services. See the Tourism Board page on the town website.
Meetings are at 5:30 p.m. the first Monday of the month. For more information, contact Planning and Economic Development Manager Shannan Campbell by email or by phone at 919-296-9477.
Water and Sewer Advisory Committee
After December 2022, the Water and Sewer Advisory Committee will need to fill upcoming vacancies for a seat designated for an in-town water customer and a seat designated for an out-of-town customer. Half the board seats are designated for in-town water customers, and half are for out-of-town customers.
The Water and Sewer Advisory Committee is responsible for making recommendations related to management of the Water and Sewer Fund. Recommendations address areas such as public information, operations, and finances. As part of this responsibility, the committee receives updates and requests information from staff to stay informed.
The committee seeks diversity in its membership to include representation from residential, commercial, and institutional customers. The committee member term is four years. Applicants from new neighborhoods also are encouraged to apply.
The committee meets at 7 p.m. the first Thursday of the month. Starting February 2023, meetings will be held every other month. Members also attend other pertinent meetings on a rotating basis. See the Water and Sewer Advisory Committee page on the town website.
