W. Franklin Street Reopens at Kenan Street

Chapel Hill, NC - W. Franklin Street has been reopened following an incident at 311 W. Franklin Street. According to an update at 5:05 pm on March 28, 2024, the smoke reported in the area was due to an electrical problem, which is now under control. The Chapel Hill Fire Department is currently investigating the situation, and fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries.

Earlier in the day, at 3:35 pm, it was reported that W. Franklin Street was closed between Kenan Street and Mallette Street due to the smoke incident at 311 W. Franklin Street. Travelers in the area were advised to use W. Rosemary Street or W. Cameron Avenue as detours.
