Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation is thrilled to announce award-winning children’s author Derrick Barnes will present an author’s talk and book signing event. Barnes, a North Carolina-based author, has written many award-winning books known for their powerful storytelling and moving portrayals of Black lives and culture.
During the event, Barnes will give a brief introduction and share his background, journey to becoming a writer, and insights into his family life. He'll share an engaging and informative presentation, and a unique glimpse into the life and work of a successful author.
"Designed for children, tweens, and their families, Derrick’s presentation is sure to be a hit with anyone interested in Black history, Black culture, and positive stories featuring black children," Barnes said.
Following the presentation, Barnes will answer questions from the audience, allowing for an interactive and thought-provoking discussion.
"This is a rare opportunity for young readers and aspiring writers to engage with a renowned author and gain valuable insights into the world of writing and storytelling," Barnes remarked.
The event will take place at the Hargraves Community Center (216 N. Roberson St) on April 7, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. and is free for all attendees. Those present will have the chance to receive a free autographed book while supplies last.
