The upcoming Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 27 will affect the operations of most municipal offices and services. The majority of these facilities will be closed in observance of the national holiday.

In terms of waste management, residential trash collection will not take place on May 27. Instead, a make-up day has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 29. Yard trimmings collection, however, will proceed as usual. Curbside recycling will also be suspended on the holiday and delayed by one day for the remainder of the week. Both the Orange County Landfill and Waste & Recycling Centers will be closed for the day. Commercial trash collection is also expected to halt on Memorial Day but is promised to be completed by week's end.

Public facilities such as the Chapel Hill Public Library and Chapel Hill Transit will cease operations for the day. The Public Housing Office and Maintenance Division are also slated to close; however, emergency maintenance services can still be reached at (919) 968-2855.

Parks and Recreation facilities have varying schedules for Memorial Day. Offices including Parks & Rec Administrative Offices, Chapel Hill Community Center and Pool, Hargraves Center, Nate Davis Sr. Gymnasium, Teen Center, and A.D. Clark Outdoor Pool will all be closed. Meanwhile, Homestead Aquatic Center will maintain operating hours from 10 a.m.–7 p.m.. Other outdoor amenities such as parks, greenways, trails, dog parks, playgrounds, picnic shelters remain open to the public.
