Chapel Hill Town Council discusses key initiatives in final session

The Chapel Hill Town Council convened for their final meeting of the 2023-2024 session on Monday, June 17, at 6:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Town Hall. The complete agenda and meeting minutes are available on the Town’s website. Key points from the meeting include:

Parks & Recreation Month Proclamation

The Council declared June as Parks and Recreation Month in Chapel Hill. Council Member Elizabeth Sharpe read the proclamation, which was accepted by members of the Town’s Parks and Recreation department. The Council emphasized the significant role that parks and recreation activities play in the community and encouraged everyone to utilize these resources throughout the year.

Public Hearing for PRICE Funding Application

A public hearing was held regarding the Town’s application for PRICE funding. Staff from the Affordable Housing & Community Connections department are seeking up to $15 million to acquire and improve up to three Manufactured Housing Communities in Chapel Hill. Funding decisions will be announced in Fall 2024.

Rewriting Our Rules: LUMO Update

The Planning department provided an update on the ongoing project to revise the Town’s Land Use Management Ordinance (LUMO). Discussions included Neighborhood Conservation Districts, missing middle housing, and building and street frontage standards.
