The heat is on as the community transitions from Pride month into July's celebrations and free weekend parking. Residents are invited to wrap up Small Town Pride with two events in Carrboro, learn about the free July 4th fireworks shuttle, and prepare for temporary downtown detours due to a TV show filming.
### What You Need to Know About Our July 4th Fireworks
The Chapel Hill July 4th Celebration returns to Southern Community Park. Attendees can use a free shuttle from Jackson Parking Deck at UNC Hospitals starting at 6 pm until 8:45 pm, with return shuttles running until 10:30 pm. Limited parking at Southern Village opens at 7 pm. Fireworks will begin around 9 pm.
Fire Marshal Chris Wells reminds residents that only store-bought fireworks in North Carolina are legal. "Generally speaking, if it spins or leaves the ground, it’s not legal," he said.
### July 4 is a Town Holiday, Some Services are Affected
Most town offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4. The Chapel Hill Public Library will be closed, and Chapel Hill Transit will not operate except for the shuttle service to the celebration. Several recreational facilities will have adjusted hours.
### TV Series Filming Brings Temporary Downtown and Campus Street Closures
A production company will film a television show in downtown Chapel Hill and on the UNC campus from Monday, July 8 through Wednesday, July 10. Detours will affect pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.
### Show Your Pride at Two More Community Events
Chapel Hill-Carrboro Small Town Pride concludes with two events in Carrboro:
- **Pride Piper Walk**: Friday, June 28 at Carrboro Century Center.
- **Carrboro Pride Dance Party**: Friday, June 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Carrboro Town Commons.
