Chapel Hill police locate missing person

Samuel Bumpass, who was reported missing earlier today, has been safely located, according to an update from the Chapel Hill Police Department at 9:30 p.m. on July 3, 2024.

The initial report released at 1:43 p.m. stated that the Chapel Hill Police Department sought the community's assistance in locating Samuel Bumpass, a 34-year-old resident of Chapel Hill. He was last seen around 10:30 a.m. on May 25 in the area of Weaver Dairy Road and Banks Drive.

Bumpass is described as a Black man with short hair, standing at 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing approximately 150 pounds. At the time he went missing, he was wearing a long sleeve black shirt and blue jeans.

Authorities did not believe Bumpass to be in danger during his disappearance.
