International soccer is returning to Chapel Hill this month. Manchester City will face Celtic FC at Kenan Memorial Stadium at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, as part of the 2024 FC Series.
“We’re thrilled that a lot of eyes will be on Chapel Hill again this summer,” said Town Manager Chris Blue. “Folks from around the world will get to see why we love calling Chapel Hill home. We know our community will give them a warm welcome.”
Downtown is expected to be busy on the day of the match. Residents and visitors are encouraged to allow extra time for travel and consider carpooling when possible.
Chapel Hill Transit’s Tar Heel Express shuttle service offers a convenient way to reach Kenan Stadium on game day. Round-trip tickets cost $5 per person from all three pick-up locations: Southern Village Park and Ride, Friday Center Park and Ride (both with free parking available), and Downtown Chapel Hill on Franklin Street near Carolina Coffee Shop. Note that purchasing a Tar Heel Express ticket does not cover or guarantee parking in downtown lots.
Shuttles will start operating at 5:00 p.m., departing either when full or every 10 to 15 minutes, with return service ending approximately 45 minutes after the game.
Parking options include UNC’s campus lots, which require pre-purchase, and public parking in downtown areas. Town-owned and operated parking lots will implement a $30 special event flat rate starting at 2 p.m. on game day. Parking meters will not accept cash, tailgating is prohibited in Town lots, and no game parking is allowed in downtown neighborhoods.
Town officials are collaborating with game organizers, UNC, and other partners to ensure a positive experience for both community members and visitors.
