Missing teenager safely located in Chapel Hill

Auj’nae Edwards, a 17-year-old from Chapel Hill, has been safely located, according to an update provided by the Chapel Hill Police Department at 8 a.m. on July 15, 2024.

Earlier that morning, at 6 a.m., the department had sought the community's assistance in locating Edwards. She was last seen around 1 a.m. in the area of Formosa Lane. Edwards is described as being 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighing approximately 120 pounds. At the time she went missing, she was wearing a t-shirt and olive-green pants and had her red hair styled in a bun.

Authorities did not believe Edwards to be in danger during her brief disappearance.

The police had urged anyone with information to call 911 or contact the Chapel Hill Police Department directly at 919-968-2760 during business hours (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday). Additionally, anonymous tips could be submitted through Chapel Hill-Carrboro-UNC Crimestoppers at 919-942-7515 or via their website.
