Twenty-two student-athletes from 16 member institutions of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) participated in the Women Leaders in Sports 2024 National Convention, held from October 13-15 in Baltimore. The event underscores Women Leaders' commitment to enhancing educational, athletic, and leadership opportunities for student-athletes.

Representing North Carolina were Brooklyn Walker-Welch from the women's lacrosse team and Spencer Young from women's track & field. ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips expressed enthusiasm about partnering with Women Leaders to provide valuable experiences for student-athletes. "We are thrilled to once again partner with Womens Leaders and offer this amazing experience to our student-athletes," he said. He also commended Patti Phillips and the Women Leaders organization for their dedication to advancing women.

The convention featured Power Panels, Breakouts, and PowHER Talks on leadership, career development, and industry topics. The ACC sponsored a lunch event honoring Jane Miller as an ACC Legend. Miller engaged with attendees, including ACC representatives.

Jane Miller has a long history with Virginia athletics, serving as both head coach and administrator before retiring in November 2018. She began her career at Virginia in 1983 as head coach for field hockey and women's lacrosse. After stepping down as head field hockey coach following the 1991 season, she became Assistant Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator in 1992. Her administrative career included significant roles at conference and national levels.

In addition to attending the convention, ACC student-athletes participated in a workshop led by Dr. Shelby McKay focusing on career exploration, networking practice, core competencies review, transferable skills overview, and convention expectations.

Women Leaders in Sports was founded in 1979 as a nationally recognized professional membership organization dedicated to developing women leaders working in sports through training, networking opportunities, and resources.
