The University of North Carolina (UNC) will host the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Sectional Championships this weekend at the Chewning Tennis Center in Chapel Hill. Both men's and women's tennis teams from UNC will participate in this event, which serves as a final opportunity for players to qualify for the 2024 NCAA Individual Championships.

The ITA East Sectional includes competitors from various regions such as Atlantic, Carolina, New England, and Northeast. Other sectional sites are Central, hosted by Texas Christian University (TCU), South at Florida State University, and West at Pepperdine University.

This year's ITA Sectional Championships feature a draw size of 32 for singles matches and 16 for doubles. From these competitions, six singles players from each section will advance to the NCAA Singles Championship based on semifinal placements and two quarterfinal playoff victories. Additionally, three doubles teams from each section will move forward to the NCAA Doubles Championship.

For the UNC men's team, participants include Constantinos Djakouris, Vladislav Melnic, Patrick Schoen, and Quangqing "Chris" Xu in singles matches. In doubles play, Schoen pairs with Logan Zapp while Melnic partners with Anthony Wright.

On the women's side, Tatum Evans and Theadora Rabman have already secured their spots in the NCAA Singles Championship due to their performance in September's ITA All-American Championships semifinals. Carson Tanguilig and Susanna Maltby qualified for the NCAA Doubles field after winning last month's ITA Carolina Regional doubles championship.

This weekend's competition will also see Tanguilig and Maltby competing in singles matches. The doubles teams of Evans/Rabman and Alana Boyce/Lindsay Zink are set to participate as well.

Results from both men's and women's competitions will be available throughout the weekend. Admission is free for those attending the ITA East Sectional Championships in Chapel Hill, with parking provided near the Chewning Tennis Center.
