Town of Carrboro Fire Department  issued the following announcement on Dec. 11.

Mayor Damon Seils has proclaimed December 13, 2022, to be Sergeant Brent Hobby and Firefighter Michael Miller Day in Carrboro and encourages all residents to celebrate their service and dedication to the community.

Each December, the Chamber for a Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro recognizes individuals who are committed to making Chapel Hill and Carrboro a thriving, healthy, and sustainable community, including one police officer and one firefighter from each local government in Orange County.

The 2022 Carrboro Police Officer of the Year is Sergeant Charles Brent Hobby and the 2022 Carrboro Firefighter of the Year is Firefighter Michael Robert Miller.

Sergeant Hobby has served the Police Department for over 14 years, currently serving as the sergeant of the Community Services Division. Sergeant Hobby seeks to develop those around him through high-quality and real-world applicable training. His natural humility and conversational manner enhance his ability to share his deep knowledge of community issues, policing methods, and creative problem solving. Sergeant Hobby’s focus on professionalism and ongoing training make him a shining example of leadership and an inspiration to other officers.

Firefighter Miller has served the Fire-Rescue Department for four years, currently serving as a firefighter on C-Shift. Firefighter Miller has taken on leadership roles with several projects for the Fire-Rescue Department, including the SafeKids program and Child Passenger Safety Programs. He mentors new personnel in the department, ensuring that they know what it takes to be a great firefighter, and leads them by setting the example. Firefighter Miller also serves the community through volunteer work with community organizations, including the South Orange Rescue Squad.

Both Sergeant Hobby and Firefighter Miller serve the Town of Carrboro and their respective departments with honor, integrity, and respect.
