The University of North Carolina has secured a strong position in the latest LEARFIELD Directors' Cup standings, released by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. With 361 points scored in winter sports, UNC ranks third overall.

The men's indoor track and field team made significant contributions to this achievement. Led by Parker Wolfe's second-place finishes in both the 3,000 and 5,000 meters events, the team tied for fifth place at the NCAA Championships. This result matched their best-ever finish from 1973 and added 75 points to UNC's total.

Overall, Carolina has accumulated 733.5 points across 13 sports this season. They trail only Stanford with 802.75 points and Texas with 746.5 points.

Notre Dame holds fourth place, followed by Tennessee in fifth. The top ten is completed by Wisconsin, NC State, Penn State, Alabama, and Ohio State.

Additional contributors to UNC's winter sports success include men's basketball (ninth place), women's swimming and diving (17th), women's basketball (17th), wrestling (30th), men's swimming and diving (33rd), and combined men's and women's fencing (21st).

Carolina boasts six top-10 finishes in NCAA post-season play so far. The field hockey team won a national championship; both men's and women's soccer teams placed fifth; men's indoor track and field also placed fifth; men's cross country was sixth; while men's basketball achieved ninth place.
