Town of Hillsborough issued the following announcement on Aug. 22.
Sections of Riverwalk and a connecting trail will be closed in the coming week to accommodate a Duke Energy project.
Duke Energy plans to close a small section of Riverwalk at the utility easement midway between the greenway’s two river crossings. Riverwalk is expected to close twice for a few hours each time.
In the same section of Riverwalk, much of the Peggy Cates Bartow Loop Trail, which connects to the greenway at each end, will also be closed for up to a week.
Closings are expected to occur in the early or middle part of the week of Aug. 23-27.
The project includes line work and adding gravel paths to some utility poles to prevent future damage by trucks used for storm-recovery repairs. Trucks and other equipment will be on the trails, and pedestrians and cyclists are reminded to observe cones, barricades and safety signage.
