Town of Carrboro issued the following announcement on Mar. 14.
Mayor Damon Seils has declared Friday, March 18, 2022, Transit Driver Appreciation Day and March 14-18, 2022, as Chapel Hill Transit Operator and Maintenance Team Member Appreciation Week in Carrboro.
“I encourage all residents to incorporate public transit into their transportation routines; to become advocates for local and regional public transit; and, most important, to thank our local and regional bus operators and maintenance team members at every opportunity," Mayor Seils said.
Chapel Hill Transit Director Brian Litchfield received the proclamation on Tuesday. It recognizes that transit operators and maintenance team members work hard each day to help customers access jobs, health care, school, community services, and many other personal, social, and civic opportunities.
It also recognizes that the COVID-19 public health emergency has reinforced how vital public transit is to our communities; and throughout the pandemic, transit team members have worked on the front lines, adapting to new work environments and safety requirements and helping customers to safely get to their essential destinations while also responding to significant changes in their own lives.
