ALAMANCE COMMUNITY COLLEGE: STEM Forum Aims to Recruit Young Women; Public Stakeholders Encouraged to Attend Discussion

Ladies

Alamance Community College issued the following announcement on Apr. 8.

Alamance Community College is inviting individuals in education, business, nonprofits, and the community to participate in a discussion for improving opportunities for girls and young women in the engineering and STEM career fields.

“STEMming the Tide: Creating a Network to Help Young Women Pursue and Persist in Engineering Pathways” is scheduled for Wednesday, April 27, 6:30-7:30 p.m. on the main ACC campus. Light refreshments will be served beginning at 6:00 p.m.

The College encourages stakeholders to participate in a facilitated forum that will explore ways to improve STEM education, specifically engineering, for young women in grades 3-12.

The goal of the forum is to gather input from relevant community members to:

  • Compile current county resources for engineering/STEM support
  • Identify gaps in the current existing STEM resources
  • Generate ideas on a structure to support engineering programs
Interested participants will be encouraged to discuss how best to establish an educational pathway for girls to have consistent and frequent opportunities to experience engineering in Alamance County.

Registration is limited. Those interested in attending should register at: https://engineering4youngwomen.eventbrite.com
