Town of Hillsborough issued the following announcement on Oct. 24.
Hillsborough police arrested a man on, Oct. 21, in connection with a May 2022 opioid overdose.
Walter Wrenn, 36, of Efland was arrested on a charge of Felony Death by Distribution. He was already incarcerated in the Orange County Jail for unrelated charges. He is being held under a $100,000 secured bond.
On May 20, 2022, officers from the Hillsborough Police Department and emergency personnel from Orange County Emergency Services responded to a residence on Summit Drive for a medical call. A 35-year-old woman was experiencing a medical emergency due to an opioid overdose. Lifesaving measures were unsuccessful, and the woman died.
Investigators with the Hillsborough Police Department, aided by the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the victim’s family, conducted an investigation that led to charging Wrenn for supplying the victim with the opioids that led to her death.
