The Biden Administration's elimination of immigration policies and border enforcement tools has triggered one of the most severe border crises in American history, endangering U.S. Border Patrol agents' lives, according to critics. This situation arises from the belief that by dissolving these measures, the administration has indirectly encouraged illegal border crossings.
"We're seeing the worst border crisis ever," is an assertion being echoed across various platforms.
A hearing titled "On The Front Lines of the Border Crisis: A Hearing with Chief Patrol Agents" was convened by the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. Chairman Comer and Committee Republicans emphasized how President Biden's policies have precipitated this crisis, according to a report by Oversight House Gov. Testimony was provided by U.S. Border Patrol Chiefs about a crisis breaking records for illegal border crosser apprehensions, migrant fatalities, narcotics confiscations, and arrests of suspected terrorists attempting unlawful crossing. Notably, during the previous Congress term under Democrats' leadership, not one hearing addressed this humanitarian and national security issue at the border. This hearing marked their first engagement with U.S. Border Patrol agents under Biden's administration.
According to Fox News article, since President Biden took office, over 6.2 million illegal crossings at the southern border have been recorded alongside 1.5 million 'gotaways' who escaped law enforcement's grasp. Detention facilities are overflowing; immigration court backlogs are surging; deportations are at historic lows - painting a chaotic picture of turmoil generated by President Biden's policies. Moreover, during a recent visit to Texas's border region, it became apparent that exhausted and disheartened Border Patrol agents find themselves in high-pressure situations daily as they attempt to manage these issues on the ground.
Approximately 300,000 unaccompanied children have been encountered at the border and placed with sponsors in the U.S since President Biden assumed office as reported by Cornyn Senate Gov. Disturbingly, many of these children are brought into the country by cartels, smugglers, and coyotes without their parents' presence. Despite coming to the U.S. in search of safety, recent New York Times reports expose widespread exploitation and labor trafficking of these children within the country. The Biden Administration's role in this has come under scrutiny as it is responsible for placing these children with safe sponsors. Unfortunately, the administration's efforts to vet sponsors before placement and conduct follow-up wellness checks after placement have been lacking, raising concerns about these children's wellbeing.
