The Friends of Chapel Hill Public Library are gearing up for their Big Book Sale, scheduled to take place from Friday, April 12 through Sunday, April 14 at the Chapel Hill Public Library.
Karen Curtin, President of the Friends, expressed excitement about the upcoming sale, stating, “The sale always has thousands of great books at great prices. This April we have an unusually large collection of some very popular categories: classic and literary fiction, and US and European history.”
The sale will kick off on Friday, April 12 from 3 to 6 pm with an exclusive Members only sale. On this day, memberships will be available at the door or online. Employees of Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools can also attend on Friday by presenting their staff ID at the door.
For the public, the sale will continue on Saturday, April 13 from 10 am to 5 pm and on Sunday, April 14 from 10 am to 2 pm, with a special $10 bag sale on Sunday. The inventory will include gently used fiction and non-fiction books for both children and adults, as well as puzzles, with prices starting at $1.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own bags for all three sale days. Commercial book resellers will be charged for extra boxes provided by the Friends, and shoppers will have limits on the number of boxes or bins they can store in the lobby before purchase.
The Friends organization holds three weekend-long book sales each year, with proceeds supporting library services, special projects, and programming. Karen Curtin mentioned that the organization raises over $150,000 annually for the library through the sale of donated books, membership dues, and donations.
For those unable to wait until the sale dates, the Friends Online Book Store is available for shopping at any time. Inquiries about the sale or Friends membership can be directed to info@friendschpl.org.
