Town of Hillsborough issued the following announcement on Sept. 4.

This Labor Day, Orange County is offering free COVID-19 testing from 1 to 5 p.m. in Hillsborough.

The testing on Monday, Sept. 7, will be in the parking lot directly in front of the Whitted Human Services Center, 300 W. Tryon St. Testing will be drive through or walk up.

Anyone can receive a test regardless of whether they are showing symptoms or are a close contact of someone positive for the virus. Registration is on site, and the nasal swab tests are free.

The county is working with StarMed HealthCare, based in Charlotte, to provide the testing. Results are available in three days on average.

In addition to recommending testing, the Orange County Health Department urges everyone to enjoy the long holiday weekend while making safe choices. See the news release for guidance on what’s safe and for some local activity options.

In the current weekly update of COVID-19 cases, released at 9 a.m. on Fridays, Orange County is reporting 2,344 cases and 50 deaths. This is an increase of 201 cases from last week. Cases are in all categories of age. Nearly 50% are in the 18 to 24 age range, and 25% are in the 25 to 49 age range. The state updates its COVID-19 dashboard daily at about noon and is showing 2,371 cases and 50 deaths in Orange County. The Orange County Health Department data is a day behind the case count provided by the state because the county uses a different system that provides more comprehensive demographic data.
